Choosing a plumber in Bradford: a short guide

Gas work needs a Gas Safe registered engineer

Only engineers on the Gas Safe Register may work on gas boilers, cookers, fires and pipework. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card: the front shows their photo, licence number and dates, and the back lists the types of gas work they're qualified for. You can check a card on the Gas Safe Register website or by calling 0800 408 5500.

Approved plumbers (WaterSafe)

WaterSafe is the register of plumbing businesses approved under the Water Fittings Regulations, backed by every UK water supplier. Members hold at least £2 million public liability insurance and a recognised qualification, must put right any work that doesn't meet the regulations, and can give you a certificate of compliance. Using one isn't a legal requirement, but you can search for one by postcode.

Building regulations

You don't need to apply for building regulations approval yourself if the work is done by a tradesperson registered with a competent person scheme. Replacing a bath, toilet, basin or sink is exempt; electrical work around baths and showers is not.
